what is the PADI IDC?
The PADI IDC Instructor Development Course is made up of two parts – the PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire PADI IDC and go on to attend their PADI Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn their PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification.
Successfully completing just the PADI AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When a PADI AI is ready to progress, attending the PADI OWSI program allows entry into the PADI IE to earn a full PADI Instructor rating. The combination of the PADI AI and OWSI programs over 15 days is our PADI IDC in Perhentian, Malaysia – there’s no need to have a break in the middle if you want to go all the way!
Dive professionals who hold an instructor rating with another diver training organization may be eligible to enroll directly on the PADI OWSI program. This recognizes prior instructor training and provides a path to become a PADI Instructor.
